Full book borrowing privileges are available to currently enrolled students and faculty of Mississippi College. Borrowing privileges with some restrictions are also extended to other types of users. 

A current university ID card or library card must be presented at the Circulation Desk when borrowing books.

Borrowing Policy for Books

Borrowing privileges at the Speed Library, the Learning Resources Center, and the M.C. Law Library are available to all Mississippi College students. Students must abide by the loan and fine policies of the library where the items are borrowed and return the items to that library.

The general loan period for Speed Library books borrowed by students is three weeks with a limit of 30 items. Students may renew books twice for three weeks each time. Renewals may be requested in person or by calling 601.925.3232. Fines, replacement fees, and processing fees are charged for overdue and/or unreturned items.

M.C. graduate students who have dropped out of school for a short time may apply at the Graduate School Office for extension of library privileges. Written permission must be received by the Library from the Graduate School to renew these privileges each semester.

Borrowing Policy for Periodicals

Periodicals may not be checked out of the library. Photocopy machines are available in the periodical area for making copies.

Fines and Replacement Fees

Community Users

Community Users

Residents of Clinton and the greater Jackson area, faculty and students from other universities and MC alumni may borrow books from Speed Library upon purchase of a Speed Library community user card for $50 per calendar year.

The card must be renewed annually and entitles the cardholder to check out up to 5 items for a period of three weeks.  Two three-week renewals are allowed. Fines, replacement fees, and processing fees are charged to the cardholder for overdue and unreturned items.

Community Use Policies

  • Children under the tenth grade must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Reference service provided to community users is limited to answering basic directional questions.
  • Community users may use Speed Library’s online catalog and the book and periodical collections. Subject to licensing restrictions and equipment availability, limited access is available to some electronic databases. Priority use of these databases is reserved for current Mississippi College students, faculty and staff. General access to the internet and email is not available to community users.

Graduate Students Working on Thesis

Upon supplying the library with a written "Request for Thesis Time Extension" form from the Graduate School, graduate students working on their theses but not currently enrolled will be granted borrowing privileges. The loan period is nine weeks with a limit of 30 items; two nine-week renewals are allowed. Fines, replacement fees, and processing fees are charged for overdue and/or unreturned items.

Faculty and Staff

Other Qualified Borrowers

Local Pastors and NOBTS Extension Students

Local pastors and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) Extension students may borrow books from Speed Library upon presentation of a current library card. Local pastors must present proof of pastorship. A list of current NOBTS Extension students is provided to the library each semester.

The card must be renewed each semester and entitles the cardholder to check out up to 5 items for a period of three weeks.  Two three-week renewals are allowed. Fines, replacement fees, and processing fees are charged to the cardholder for overdue and unreturned items.
