Two Types of Article Indexes
Which article index to use depends upon your topic.

1. General or Multidisciplinary Databases

These cover a wide range of subjects and often index a mixture of popular and scholarly sources. Examples of general indexes and the kinds of articles they identify are:

Academic Search Premier
(Ebscohost)
Multidisciplinary database offering indexing and abstracting and many full text articles. Dates of coverage vary.

Academic Universe
(Lexis Nexis)

Multidisciplinary database with full text articles.  Sources in Lexis-Nexis Academic include newspapers, general magazines and journals, medical information, news transcripts, federal and state legal codes and information, business information, corporate profiles, SEC documents, and country profiles.  Medical information includes full text articles from journals, and abstracts from MEDLINE, the National Library of Medicine database.  Dates of coverage vary according to title.  Indexes tull text articles from over 500 U.S. newspapers, from 1991 to present.
