The Leland Speed Library at Mississippi College provides library resources and services to all faculty and students participating in distance learning programs. This includes students currently enrolled in Mississippi College sponsored Distance Education courses at the Madison and Rankin campuses; online-only classes/programs, and graduate students who have completed their coursework and moved away from Clinton, but are enrolled for masters or dissertation hours.

Specific resources and services helpful for the distance learner are listed below. Access to most electronic resources such as databases and online journals require an MC campus network login. Instructions on how to obtain this login information may be found at the MCnet Lookup Username Password page or by calling the library reference desk (601.925.3916).
Using Online Resource from Off Campus
The library’s databases may be accessed from off campus by using the MCnet username password. The Distance Education LibGuide provides links to commonly used online resources.
Article Requests
Interlibrary Loan will copy and send articles from the books and journals in the library collection for out of state students. Document Delivery includes journal articles held in print, microform, or electronic format by the MC library. These requests are made through the web based Interlibrary Loan Forms.
Find Books
The holdings of the Leland Speed Library may be accessed using MICAL, the library’s online catalog. A link to this resource is found on the library’s main web page. An MC ID card is required to use print materials from the library. Mississippi College distance learning students have borrowing privileges which is 3 weeks for books and 2 days for audio visual materials (DVD, audio/video cassette, etc.) Online renewal is available on the library homepage. At this time Speed Library does not send books to distance learning students.
For online students that do not live in the area, their local public library may be the fastest way to get books. Many libraries participate in consortia and have access to the collections of other public and college libraries in your state.
Subject Guides
Subject guides have been created as ‘gateways’ to information for each department at Mississippi College. These guides provide links to holdings information, websites, databases, and print resources.
Faculty may request a guide that is subject-specific for their online course. This request may be made by contacting the library director or one of the reference librarians.
E-Reserves
MC distance learning students who need to access online or electronic course reserve materials will find them by searching MICAL (the online catalog) by either the professor's name or the course name. MCnet login information is needed to access e-reserves.
MC faculty who are teaching distance learning courses can provide online class materials by using the Course Reserves service. Consult the Placing Materials on Reserve page for additional information.
Library Instruction
Online Tutorials are available to acquaint students with library resources and services.
If there are any class meetings on campus, faculty are strongly encouraged to spend some time in a library instruction session in the library. Please use the Library Instruction page to set up an instruction session for a class. Individual students (and faculty) who are going to be on campus can request an individual consultation by contacting the reference desk at 601-935-3916.
