Reference

Our reference department assists in the use of the library, including location of materials, use of the catalog, and the use of basic reference sources.

The Reference Department provides a variety of services including assisting in the use of electronic and print resources, conducting searches of subject-specific online databases, and providing specialized tours and classes.

  • Reference librarians are available to aid patrons doing research, by directing the users to the most appropriate resources. This may include instruction in how to find the best information, rather than merely attempting to provide direct answers.
  • The Library's instruction program is designed to introduce students to basic sources and search strategies, including the new information technologies needed for effective library use. The presentations offered are course-related instruction, according to the needs of the class and the requests of the instructor. Undergraduate and graduate classes are both welcome.
